Blackhawks Resign Dynamic Duo - Future NHL Odds
The Chicago Blackhawks know they have a good thing going and showed their dedication in keeping their two best players by showing them the money. Star forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have received matching eight year deals, each worth $84 million.
Each player received the new extensions that will keep them signed through the 2022-23 season. The Blackhawks made the move because their current identical $31.5 million extensions in 2009 were to expire at the end of the next season.
The two youngsters are in their mid-20's and have already won two Stanley Cups. Staying together, especially in the prime of their hockey careers, helps their chances of winning more in the future.
The Hawks 26-year-old, Toews, has been the captain for six seasons and won the 2010 Conn Smythe Trophy and 2013 Frank J. Selke Trophy. He has a remarkable 195 goals and 245 assists in 484 regular season games. In the playoffs he has delivered with 29 goals and 52 assists in 94 playoff games.
Kane is only one year younger but his numbers are similar to his skating mate. He has 178 goals and 315 assists in 515 career regular season games. He has been even more clutch in the playoffs with 37 goals and 54 assists in 93 games. His awards include the 2008 Calder Memorial Trophy and the 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy.
The cornerstone players are happy to be inked into long deals to stay with the Blackhawks franchise. They arrived to the team together in 2007 and the new contract extensions will guarantee that Chicago will continue to be contenders for a long time.
The sportsbook already has future NHL odds on who will win the 2014-15 Stanley Cup. The Blackhawks odds are currently favored among NHL picks to win at +700 and the tandem of Toews and Kane have a lot to do with it.
