Lightning vs Red Wings - Game 3 Playoff Preview & NHL Betting Lines
Tampa Bay Lightning (-110) at Detroit Red Wings (+100)
Tuesday (7 pm ET) – April 15, 2015
After being ambushed by Detroit in Game 1 of their NHL playoff series, the Tampa Bay Lightning came around in the second period of Game 2 on Saturday and went on to a 5-1 rout of the Red Wings. Now it will be interesting to see if the Joe Louis Arena venue and the Red Wings will be able to halt that momentum as the teams face off in Detroit on Tuesday.
What to watch from the Tampa Bay Lightning (50-24-8)
The Lightning and goalie Ben Bishop have had their share of difficulties on the road this season. The team was 18-16-7 on the road, while Bishop had a .904 save percentage, lower than his .925 percentage at home. So it will be intriguing to see if Coach Jon Cooper’s team can keep the pressure out of Bishop’s end in Detroit. They’ll need the same high-strung attack that has gotten them through the season, with Steven Stamkos and Tyler Johnson providing the fireworks.
What to watch from the Detroit Red Wings (43-25-14)
For a good part of the first two games, the Red Wings seemed to neutralize Tampa Bay’s speed with good defense and puck possession. They’ll look to do much the same in Game 3, and get center Pavel Datsyuk back into the scoring column. He had two goals in the 3-2 win in Game 1. They’ll also need goalie Petr Mrazek to resume the same form he had in the first game, when he stopped 44 shots. He was pulled in Game 2 when things got out of hand.
NHL Betting Picks: Red Wings
There’s something to be said for home-ice advantage here. The Red Wings had a league-best 65 points at home this year and won 21 of their last 25 contests at Joe Louis. The Lightning were swept by Montreal in the post season last year, and there’s no reason to think that things will be easier in rowdy Detroit.
