Chicago Tries To Keep Momentum Rolling

Detroit Red Wings @ Chicago Blackhawks – Friday April 12, 2013 8:30PM EST

The online betting experts have not seen the Detroit Red Wings this close to not making the playoffs in a long time. With only nine games left in the season, the Red Wings hold onto the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference by one point over the Phoenix Coyotes. The Red Wings have been struggling all season to establish a new identity as veteran players have retired or moved on to other teams. This has not been an easy year for the Detroit Red Wings, but making the playoffs could certainly make everything better.

The Chicago Blackhawks started this season with 24 consecutive games with at least one point. The betting sites thought that the Blackhawks may fade away when the team finally lost in regulation to the Colorado Avalanche, but good hockey teams do not give up that easily. The Blackhawks are not exactly running away with the President’s Trophy, but Chicago has been doing a pretty good job at keeping some distance between themselves and the Pittsburgh Penguins. With a three-game winning streak intact, the Blackhawks prepare to welcome a very desperate Detroit Red Wings team.

Why the Red Wings Will Win

The Detroit Red Wings have been trying to do better than .500 hockey all season long, and the team has been able to string together wins that have allowed it to have a 19-15-5 record. But if you count those five overtime losses for what they really are, which are losses, then the Red Wings fall just below .500. The team has put together a 5-5-0 run in its last 10 games and has been able to come up with some big wins when it needed it. Now Detroit needs to upset Chicago in its own building, which will not be easy.

Why the Blackhawks Will Win

The sportsbook experts could just say that the Blackhawks will win this game because Chicago has only lost three games in regulation at home. But there is much more to this Chicago team than just statistics. This team has some capable young leaders that will make this a franchise to be reckoned with for a long time. Chicago also has a goalie in Corey Crawford who has finally established himself as a number one goalie in the NHL. This season looks to be a continuation of the Blackhawks’ Cup run of a couple of years ago, but this team might be even better than that.

The Bottom Line

Detroit desperately needs this game, but Chicago is not in the habit of giving up points at home. While the Red Wings have been playing well as of late, they have not been playing well enough to expect to be able to go into Chicago and beat the Blackhawks at their own game, in their own building.

Pick: Chicago Blackhawks
