Rangers v Kings Game 2 - NHL Betting Preview

Posted by Andrew Monroe on 6/5/2014 6:31:55 PM

New York Rangers (+134) at Los Angeles Kings (-147)

STANLEY CUP FINALS – Game 2 Saturday, 7:00pm ET
Kings Lead Series 1-0

The L.A. Kings took Game 1 in an exciting 3-2 overtime game. Analyzing the game in an unassuming way, the Kings didn’t change their usual game and really don’t need to.

It's unfortunate for the Rangers that they couldn't take advantage of a sluggish start from the Kings because it presented a golden opportunity to steal Game 1 on the road. They did everything they wanted to do in the first period, going up 2-0 before the Kings eventually took control, scoring three unanswered goals.

The loss is a tough one to swallow for the Rangers and they have no choice but to put it behind them and look ahead to Game 2 on Saturday. New York forward, Derek Dorsett, who is writing a blog for NHL.com summarized his team's emotions after the loss. "This is not the start we wanted, obviously. But it's the first to four wins in this series, and we've got to make sure we shake it off, look at what we did wrong, what we can do better, and go from there. It's going to be a long series. We'll bounce back."

The Rangers were an underdog win the series to begin with (+130 before Game 1) and the odds just got stacked higher for them. In the the aftermath of a winnable Game 1 loss, the current odds have them as a +235 longshot to win the Stanley Cup.

Goalie Henrick Lundqvist has to shine in Game 2, he has to be the best player and keep the Kings off the board. Another scenario for the Rangers to conceivable beat L.A. is their speed on the ice. Both of their goals in Game 1 were on breakaways so look for them to push even harder in Game 2.

L.A. is favored once again on Saturday (currently -147 on the money line) and they will continue to battle and stay strong on the puck in an effort to out-endure the speedy Rangers. On the other side, Lundqvist needs another big performance. He has the ability to single handedly keep his team in the game, but only if his defense can avoid costly mistakes, such as the play that led to the Kings' overtime winner.
