Penguins at Sharks– NHL Hockey Lines & Preview
Pittsburgh Penguins (+250) at San Jose Sharks (-300) – NHL Hockey Odds
The Pittsburgh Penguins have become more defensive minded lately. That doesn’t bode well for the rest of the NHL, particularly the team they visit on Monday, the struggling San Jose Sharks. The Penguins will try to complete a successful West-Coast road swing, while the Sharks hope to get back on track after a disappointing home loss.
Pittsburgh Penguins Preview (38-18-9 85 pts):
The Pens are concluding a four-game trip in which they’ve won two of their first three, the last win being Saturday’s 1-0 overtime thriller at cup holder Los Angeles. Patric Hornqvist scored the winner in that one, his third goal in the last two games. But despite having Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin at the scoring helm, the Penguins are displaying a pestering defense that is now fourth in the league in goals against per game (2.38).
San Jose Sharks Preview (32-26-8 72 pts):
After a disastrous February (they won only three games), the Sharks have been trying to right the ship, winning two of their last three. But Saturday’s 3-2 home loss to Vancouver set them back. The Canucks are a team the Sharks are chasing in the Western Conference wild-card standings. They surrendered a two-goal lead in that game, and the loss left San Jose four points behind third-place Calgary in the Pacific Division and six points behind Winnipeg in the wild-card race.

It’s hard to tell how badly Saturday’s heartbreaker hurt the Sharks. But if they’re going to have any hope of a playoff bid, they need to start soon; only 16 games remain on their schedule. Meanwhile, the Penguins could have a bit of a letdown after their overtime triumph on the defending champion’s ice. Still, Pittsburgh has won six of its last seven games, trying to gain ground in the air-tight Metropolitan Division. There’s little reason to think the momentum won’t continue.
