Kings Won’t Go Down Easy As Series Shifts Back To St. Louis For Game Five

Posted by Carter Brown on 5/7/2013 7:27:05 PM

The defending Stanley Cup champions won’t go away easily. The St. Louis Blues have learned that first hand, as the Los Angeles Kings have bounced back with consecutive wins in their Western Conference Quarterfinals best-of-seven series to even it at two wins each. The home team has won each of the four games so far and if that trend continues it will be the Blues advancing to the second round, which means the Kings have to approach this online betting contest with a sense of urgency if they are going to have any shot at avoiding going the distance.

Western Conference Quarterfinals
Los Angeles Kings @ St. Louis Blues
Wednesday, 9:00 PM ET – Game 5
Series tied 2-2

Los Angeles played a much tougher game on home ice, taking the body and outshooting the Blues 23-11 over the final two periods of a 4-3 win in game four. That victory came just a couple of days after Jonathan Quick earned a shutout in the Kings’ game-three win, and it begs the question of what the series would look like now had he not misplayed that puck on the game-winning goal in the series opener. The experience of last year’s Stanley Cup run will ensure that Los Angeles won’t panic, as this calm and collected group does what is necessary to win. That means getting at least one road victory, something the Kings came close to doing in each of the first two games. The Blues played an aggressive game in each of the first two at home, and it will be interesting to see if they keep it up after losing consecutive road games. Los Angeles had their number all season before losing the first two in this sports betting series, and now that the Kings have bounced back it is very possible they can ride their momentum the rest of the way.

NHL Betting Pick: Los Angeles Kings + 120

Western Conference Quarterfinals
Detroit Red Wings @ Anaheim Ducks
Wednesday, 10:00 PM ET – Game 5
Series tied 2-2

The Ducks were on the verge of putting Detroit away a third time and taking a three-games-to-one series lead back home to Anaheim for game five, but Damien Brunner and company had other plans. Pavel Datsyuk scored the game-tying goal with under seven minutes left in regulation, and it was Brunner that delivered the overtime-winner to even the series at two wins each. There is still some concern for the Red Wings when it comes to handling the much bigger, stronger Ducks’ forwards, but they have done a good job through two games of keeping things to the outside and letting Jimmy Howard see pucks. With scorers like Datsyuk, Brunner, and Henrik Zetterberg there is no doubt that Detroit can win any online sports betting game they are in late, so look for Anaheim to take a much more aggressive approach to game five and really take it to them in order to keep them from having a late shot at an upset.

NHL Betting Pick: Anaheim Ducks - 140
