Buffalo Sabres Rattled by Injuries
Not that the Buffalo Sabres were going to be a major contender this year, but things have gone further south for them. Two of the Sabres stars have gone down with injuries, and for the next few weeks there will be some struggling and soul searching in their camp. Prospects for Buffalo don't look good. We'll take a look at the latest bad news for Buffalo and how it might affect the team in NHL betting.
The Injuries
Center Jack Eichel is out an expected six to eight weeks with an ankle sprain, and forward Evander Kane is likely out several weeks with broken ribs. Eichel scored 24 goals last year, and Kane had 20; together they contributed 91 points. That is tough news for a team that had only 35 wins last season.
The good news is that new addition Kyle Okposo, and Ryan O'Reilly have taken up some of the slack. Rasmus Ristolainen has picked his game up, and the Sabres penalty kill has fended off attack respectably. It all has resulted some flashes of solid play. The Sabres went to Edmonton on the weekend and took their frustrations out on the Oilers to the tune of 6-2.
Also, Buffalo's schedule over the next few weeks is manageable. They have non-contending teams to deal with until the middle of November, when they clash with St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh and Washington inn a tough close out to the month. Buffalo certainly won't be a heavy favorite in any games, if a favorite at all. But if they get to December with 10 wins or so, the Sabres might salvage a playoff season, after their heroes return and knock the rust off.
NHL Betting the Sabres
Nevertheless, the Sabres have many more weaknesses than strengths, particularly now with the missing personnel. They will still have some battling to do to stay above .500, even when they are in good health.
I'm not one to seek out teams to bet against, but sometimes a loser pays dividends. And as long as they're missing their stars, the Sabres seem to be likely targets. Consider their foes in NHL betting through November, if the prices are right.
