Rangers End Penguin’s 7-Game Win-Streak

The Pittsburgh Penguins (10-3-1) have been seemingly unbeatable over the past couple weeks. They rode a seven-game win-streak into New York. The Rangers (7-6-2) proved the NHL lines wrong and gave them a nice souvenir to take to Toronto where the Penguins will play Friday against the Maple Leafs. Cooling off the hottest team in hockey, New York handed Pittsburgh a 5-0 loss Tuesday in what was a shutout for Rangers’ goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

After the game Lundqvist talked about what it was like playing against the Penguins, “I didn't feel safe after 4-0, to be honest with you… You never know. They can turn things around so fast.” The Penguins had been flat outplaying opponents during the win-streak, scoring at least four goals in every game prior to facing off against the Rangers. Pittsburgh hadn’t allowed a power play in the last 10 games before the Rangers achieved that feat in the final minute of the first. The Penguins’ star Sydney Crosby was held pointless for the second time in three games.

New York’s Rick Nash recorded a goal and an assist for the Rangers while Lundqvist had his third shutout of the season, further adding to his team-record of 53. It was a complete 180 degree turnaround for the Rangers from their previous two games. New York will have to try and avoid looking forward to their next matchup with Pittsburgh on Saturday and put Thursday’s game against the Avalanche first.
