Game 1: Montreal Canadiens v Boston Bruins Playoff Betting Preview
Game 1: Montreal Canadiens (+166) v Boston Bruins (-183) playoff betting preview. The Montreal Canadiens are (+1.5) going into Game 1 against the Boston Bruins (-1.5). The Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins are such big rivals; their rivalry has their own Wikipedia page. These two teams will play each other for the 34th time in the playoffs. Playoffs wise, this is the biggest rivalry in all of sports. The Bruins are clearly the favorites going into this series, but the hype of this rivalry could affect the East’s #1 seed. Most people believe the Boston Bruins will win the Stanley Cup. They won the President’s trophy this year by having the best record in the NHL in the regular season. However, keep in mind since January of 2013 the Montreal Canadiens have beaten the Boston Bruins six out of eight times. Of course, Detroit had beaten Boston three times this year, before falling to the Bruins in the 1st round. Boston’s main ingredient of success is their depth. The Bruins can run out four solid lines at anytime. Their top line consists of their leader David Krejci, who has great forwards in Milan Lucic and Jarome Iginla. The main objective of this line is to score, as these three players were some of the best scorers in the NHL. The second line features Brad Marchand and is much more of a defensive line. This line is designed to preserve a lead late in the 3rd period. It should be noted Marchand likes to fight and the Canadiens will have to keep their cool if they do not want to get penalties. Boston is deadly on the power play. The third and fourth lines are checking and high energy lines. The Bruins may also have more weapons available. Daniel Paille and Chris Kelly have battled injuries, but may be available in this series against Montreal. Bruins’ coach Claude Julien will have a lot of options going into this second round match-up. However, Montreal will be able to counter with a solid four lines as well. The Canadiens’ scoring line features Max Pacioretty, David Desharnais and Thomas Vanek. Vanek was Montreal’s most valuable players in their 1st round sweep of Tampa Bay. The Canadiens also have scoring from their second and third lines. Brendan Gallagher and Rene Borque scored three goals a piece against Tampa Bay. Along with Gallagher, the second line features scorers Tomas Plekanec and Brandon Prust. Captain Brian Gionta joins Rene Borque on the third line with Lars Eller. With all that said, the NHL playoffs are about the goal-tending. Montreal features gold medal winning goalie Casey Price. Price had his best season of his career this year. In addition to winning gold for Canada, Price only allowed 2.32 goals per game during the regular season. He also featured a save percentage of .927. However, Price is not as good as Tuuka Rask. Rask is one of three finalists for the Vezina trophy and was outstanding in the first round of the playoffs. He only allowed six goals, in five games against the Detroit Red Wings. The advantage for this series and for Game 1 is clearly in the favor of the Boston Bruins. * Betting lines mentioned in this article are subject to change due to time sensitivity.
