Homesick Hamonic Looking to Trade his Way Home

Travis Hamonic, the twenty-five year old defenseman for the New York Islanders wants to play for a Western Conference team so baldy he is requesting to be traded. The motivation behind the move is to be closer to his family which resides in Winnipeg, located in the Western region of Canada, for what he mysteriously describes as family concerns.

Travis made the request months ago during the offseason and prefers to be traded to any of the following teams: Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Edmonton Oilers or the Calgary Flames. Garth Snow, the Islanders’ General Manager has said that he has reached out to several other GM’s since Hamonic first made the request and has yet to be able to work out a trade.

Chosen in the second round of the 2008 draft at number fifty-three. Hamonic has played with the Islanders for the last six seasons. A powerhouse player, Hamonic has played in three hundred forty-two games in his career scoring one hundred fourteen points and eighteen goals. One of their top players he has the most playing time of any other player averaging 23:20 of playing time each game. He is in the third season of his contract, bringing in an average of a little under four million dollars a year. The team expects to make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs again this year and need Hamonic to maintain their team’s status as contenders.

His coach, Jack Capuano, is proud of his professionalism and says that his performance is the same top-rate playing that it he has always displayed. Teammates discovered his desire for the trade from the news and not the man himself. Though the discovery may have stung, Hamonic explains that his peers understand the reason behind his request. It will take time for a reasonable trade to be negotiated due to the value that Harmonic brings to a team and the Islanders need to retain their winning records. John Tavares, the team captain, has shown support for Harmonic and respects his decision and the way he represents himself on and off the ice.
