Vancouver Gears Up For Playoff Run

Posted by Carter Brown on 4/14/2013 10:43:10 PM

Vancouver Canucks @ Nashville Predators – Monday April 15, 2013 8:00PM EST

The Vancouver Canucks have been relatively quiet this season, with one noticeable exception. The sports betting experts could not avoid headlines constantly being made by goaltender Roberto Luongo. The Canucks did not really want to have Luongo on the roster when they started their playoff run for two reasons. The first is that Luongo is a bad teammate. He pouts in the locker room when isn’t the starting goalie and he publicly announces that his contract sucks when he is not allowed to leave Vancouver. The other reason Luongo needs to go is his dismal playoff record. He has a lot of wins, but he folds in the truly big games.

The Nashville Predators will not make the playoffs this season and that will cause a ripple effect. The online betting experts know that it is not the fault of head coach Barry Trotz, but he is the only head coach that the Predators have ever known. When all a franchise has known is playoff disappointment, then the finger gets pointed at the coach who has been in place since the franchise started in 1998. There is nothing left for the Preds to prove this season and it may even be too late to save Trotz’ job. But Nashville will take the ice and try to slow Vancouver’s playoff momentum.

Why the Canucks Will Win

The Vancouver Canucks were not the regular season juggernaut this season that they have been in past campaigns. The sportsbook experts note that Vancouver is not challenging for the President’s Trophy and it is not the highest scoring team in the league. Maybe this time the Canucks have decided to take a more traditional approach to the playoffs and not worry about being dominant in the regular season. Either way, this will be a game that Vancouver will use to get its playoff goalie ready to go. The only question is whether it will be Luongo or Cory Schneider.

Why the Predators Will Win

Since the Predators have absolutely nothing to lose in this game, then that means the team will play a wide open brand of hockey. Nashville does not have the players to skate with Vancouver, but there is nothing to say that the Predators cannot try. It will be interesting to see just how Nashville handles these last few games of the season and whether or not a sense of urgency enters into the picture.

The Bottom Line

The Vancouver Canucks do not want to enter the playoffs with Roberto Luongo as their number one goalie, but they may not have a choice. Luongo is once again having a stellar regular season that should translate into playoff success. The problem is that Luongo cannot bring that same success to the postseason and he winds up publicly lashing out at his team for it rather than pointing the finger at himself.

Pick: Vancouver Canucks
