Boston Tries To Sweep Up The Leafs On the Road

Boston Bruins @ Toronto Maple Leafs – Saturday March 23, 2013 7:00PM EST

Things are starting to slip away from the Toronto Maple Leafs and the sports betting sites know how hard Toronto has worked to try and make the playoffs the past two seasons. The Leafs are currently in a battle with four other teams for the sixth through ninth spots in the Eastern Conference. Toronto is clinging to seventh place, but the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils are in hot pursuit. Toronto needs wins to stay in playoff contention and it will need to try and pick up a win from a very good Boston Bruins team.

The Boston Bruins have been chasing the Montreal Canadiens in the Northeast Division all season long. The sportsbook experts did not expect Montreal to be in contention for a division title so soon, but the Canadiens have been making steady progress all season long. The Bruins want that top spot in the division because it means one of the top three spots in the conference and home ice advantage in at least one playoff series. But Boston has been hitting some challenges lately that it will need to overcome to beat the Leafs.

Why the Leafs Will Win

The online betting experts know that the Maple Leafs are desperately trying to improve on their 6-6-2 home record as part of their playoff push. The Leafs have been playing decent hockey at home, but it has been nothing to write home about. Goaltender James Reimer has been inconsistent as of late and the Leafs would like to see him get back on track as the playoffs approach. Everything in the Maple Leafs’ organization is focused on making the playoffs and the players use that as inspiration in every game in this final playoff push.

Why the Bruins Will Win

The Bruins have put together a two-game losing streak in its last few games and it looks like goaltender Tuukka Rask’s temper has been getting the best of him lately. But this is a veteran Boston team that will know how to calm its young goaltender and get him focused back on playing great hockey. This Boston team loves to crash the opposing net and that could play a part in how this game plays out. With Boston putting persistent pressure on the Toronto net, it is hard to imagine Boston not scoring the goals it needs to win.

The Bottom Line

The Leafs and Bruins both play a physical style of game, but the Bruins have become experts at turning physical hockey into an art form. The Leafs are playing desperate hockey as of late and that will probably show itself in the form of bad penalties and giveaways in its own end. Mistakes are something that Boston can use to its advantage as the Bruins continue its pursuit of the Montreal Canadiens.

Pick: Boston Bruins
