Bruins Call for Reinforcements Sees Results

Posted by Tom Taylor on 11/2/2014 8:49:02 AM

Needless-to-say, the Boston Bruins (7-6-0) have been bit hard by the injury bug in the early stages of the season. They currently stand at fourth in the Atlantic Division. It seems Bruins’ defensemen are dropping one after another, and things got worse last week. Already with two defensemen out, Zdeno Chara (injured knee) and Kevan Miller (shoulder injury), Boston took another blow. In Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss against the Minnesota Wild, defensemen Torey Krug sustained a broken finger and is expected to be out 2-3 weeks. With the team looking thin in that department, back-up is desperately needed.

The general manager of the club, Peter Chiarelli, announced on Wednesday that defensemen Joe Morrow and David Warsofsky will be called up to join the team from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. Morrow racked up one goal and one assist in five games with Providence this season. Warsofsky is a familiar face having skated six games for Boston last season, tallying one goal and one assist. In the same season he appeared in 56 games for Providence scoring six goals and 26 assists.

Both Morrow and Warsofsky were put into action right away and saw significant ice time on Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres. Their presence was immediately felt, particularly with Morrow who had four shots on goal. Even better news the Bruins won the game 3-2 in overtime. The winning trend continued in the following game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night with the Bruins pulling out a 4-2 victory.

That makes two wins in a row since Warsofsky and Morrow have joined the team. It seems as though the new additions have no problem fitting in, proving that their arrival has been able to help turn things around. We will see if they can help build a winning streak and be a part of the Bruins much needed revival in the early going of the season. They have a two day rest before playing a weaker Florida Panthers team at home. The opportunity for a third straight win is looking good.
