Two teams with goal-scoring problems square off in Raleigh, N.C., Monday night. For the visiting Chicago Blackhawks, the problems have been during the last couple of games. The Carolina Hurricanes’ scoring woes have lasted pretty much all season.
Chicago Blackhawks Preview (43-22-6, 92 pts):
The Blackhawks are coming off of a 4-0 shellacking at Dallas on Saturday, in a game in which they couldn’t find the net in 33 shots – including a penalty shot. They have scored just one goal in the last two games. Still, the ‘Hawks have won six of their last eight, are in third place in the Central Division, and are bound for the playoffs. They are on the third leg of a four-game road trip that concludes on Wednesday in Philadelphia.
Carolina Hurricanes Preview (26-35-10, 62 pts):
The Hurricanes rank 27th in the league in goal production, and much of that falls on the shoulders of Eric Staal. The star center is having one of the worst seasons of his career and has not registered a point in the last six games. The ‘Canes come limping into this game on the heels of a 3-2 shootout loss at home against the Rangers, and they are well out of the playoff picture. They are 2-5-3 in their last 10 games.

The Hurricanes like to play good teams tough at home, and this is the first home date against the Blackhawks this season. But Chicago beat Carolina 5-2 in their last meeting earlier this month, and the ‘Hawks should be looking to bounce back from the embarrassment at Dallas on Saturday. Chicago should prevail in a tough game.
