Betting Rangers Capitals – Rangers Look To Take 3-1 Series Lead In Washington

Posted by Don Melrose on 6/5/2014 4:30:37 AM

Sports betting sharps haven’t seen an abundance of multiple-overtime games in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs, but there was a good one on Wednesday night when New York and Washington went to three extra periods, with the Rangers pulling it out in the nation’s capital. The Rangers can step on the Capitals’ throat with a win in Game 4 on Saturday afternoon.

Rangers Capitals Odds – Saturday, 12:30 PM ET

Marian Gaborik ended the season’s longest game 14:41 into the third overtime of a 2-1 victory, while Ryan Callahan opened the scoring in the second period on the power play. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 45 shots for the Rangers in a back-and-forth affair and he made a few big stops during the overtime periods that gave NHL betting players more reason to believe he’ll win both the Vezina and Hart Trophies that he is nominated for. However, the player of the game may have been defenseman Ryan McDonagh, who led all players in ice time at 53:17 and he blocked eight shots. He could probably use the extra day of rest more than anyone outside of Lundqvist.

John Carlson tied it up in the second frame for the Capitals, who got a 47-save performance from Braden Holtby and the winning goal certainly wasn’t his fault as Gaborik was far too open right in front of him; nine times out of 10, Gaborik is going to snipe that goal. If anything, Holtby has played himself into a spot on a team in the NHL as the Capitals may stick with Tomas Vokoun next season, but at this point, the uproar from the Washington fans may be too much as the youngster has stood on his head. Without him, the Capitals don’t even get past Boston in the first round.

The NHL betting odds for this Game 4 should be quite close either way and this is a massive game in the series as the Rangers will either be going home to Madison Square Garden with a 3-1 series lead, or it’ll be all knotted at two games apiece, making it a best-of-three affair. The Capitals did everything they could to stay in Game 3 and once you get past the first time, it really just depends on one bad choice, one bad bounce, and that’s all it takes. The Capitals have showed a lot of heart just to defeat the Stanley Cup champions and nine of the 10 games that they’ve played in the playoffs have been decided by a single goal, so they could be worn out soon. Look for the Rangers to take control of this series with a victory in your online betting sites picks on Saturday.
