Bet On Canadiens Devils – Devils Looking For Answers With Canadiens In Town This Saturday

Posted by on 3/14/2013 10:21:41 PM

History has taught us that it isn’t easy to bounce back after coming up short on the biggest stage in hockey. In the case of the New Jersey Devils, that has certainly been true to this point in the season so far. The defending Eastern Conference champions have lost seven of their last 10 to fall to seventh in the standings, and it won’t get any easier with netminder Martin Brodeur sidelined for at least a couple of more weeks. Next up – a date with a Montreal Canadiens’ team that has gone from worst to first this season and took the first meeting of the online sports betting season between these clubs.

NHL Sports Betting Line: New Jersey – 120

The Devils actually came back from two goals down in that initial meeting with Montreal before losing in overtime, and while that point was important they just haven’t been good enough on the road this season. New Jersey has on the other hand been a much better team at home, and will look to keep that up in its rematch with the Canadiens.

NHL Betting Preview: Montreal Canadiens

The turnaround in Montreal in less than one full season under head coach Michel Therrien has been nothing short of incredible, especially when you consider how much of an impact his system has had on the club. The Canadiens are buying in to what Therien is preaching, and the results aren’t just showing up in the defensive numbers either. Montreal ranks fourth in the NHL with an average of 3.2 goals per game, and rookies Alex Galchenyuk and Brandon Gallagher have earned their keep with the big club. Max Pacioretty has paced Montreal once again with a team-leading 21 points, but the Canadiens are confident rolling all four lines, and have gotten some excellent play from netminder Carey Price, who leads the league in wins.

NHL Betting Preview: New Jersey Devils

The Devils could certainly use their No. 1 goalie back right about now, as their 3-6-1 stretch over their past 10 games has coincided with Brodeur’s injury. Johan Hedberg hasn’t been awful as the No. 1, but he hasn’t been very good either and the team in front of him hasn’t been able to do enough to overcome mediocre goaltending on most nights. New Jersey ranks just 23rd in the league in goals per game despite a combined 27 from the trio of David Clarkson, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Patrik Elias – who leads the team with 25 points. The Devils need a better effort from their secondary pieces to help in that department, which is where they really miss former captain Zach Parise the most.

NHL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

The online sports betting numbers that the Canadiens have put up this season are nothing short of outstanding, and the quick turnaround makes it that much more remarkable. However, Montreal will face some adversity without their leading tough guy Brandon Prust, and it won’t be easy to steal another two points against a talented Devils’ team that will be playing with a sense or urgency at home.
