Jets vs Ducks - Game 1 Playoff Preview & NHL Betting Lines

Posted by Philip Washington on 4/16/2015 7:09:06 AM

Anaheim Ducks (-139) at Winnipeg Jets (+126)

Thursday (10:30pm ET) – April 16, 2015

Thursday’s game 1 playoff match between the Jets and the Ducks could be likened to a David vs Goliath fight. On one hand you have the Ducks who have more household names and star power, and on the other hand you have a Jets side that is featuring in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since the NHL returned to Manitoba in 2011. The Ducks have a history of playoff disappointments and will be looking to finish off the Jets as quickly as possible to keep the series from dragging which will make for an exciting encounter.

What to watch from Anaheim Ducks (51-24-7)

The Ducks won all three meetings with the Jets this season so they do have an edge over them at least psychologically. However, it won’t be business as usual for the Ducks as they will have to ensure their shaky defense stays intact and keeps the Jets from scoring. The Ducks have Ryan Getzlaf and Ryan Kesler who have combined well this season for a total of 45 goals and 117 points. Their size, strength and skill has been a problem for many defenses and the Jets will be no exception. Their forwards Corey Perry and Matt Beleskey have also been prolific upfront with Perry scoring 33 goals and Beleskey scoring a career high 22 points.

What to watch from Winnipeg Jets (43-26-13)

The Jets go into Thursday’s game as underdogs. No one expected them to have made it this far and not a lot of people expect them to go any farther. That said, there is a lot of excitement for the home fans who have waited close to two decades for post season hockey to return to Winnipeg. Coach Paul Maurice will be relying on Andrew Ladd, Bryan Little and Blake Wheeler for a morale boosting home victory. Ladd has scored 62 goals this season and has a wealth of experience having been part of the Carolina Hurricanes’ Cup team and also as part of the 2010 Blackhawks team. Defenseman Tyler Myers and Dustin Byfuglien are the two other players who could really give the Ducks a run for their money.

NHL Betting Picks: Ducks, Over

The Ducks might not have the best defense, but it still will be hard to see how the Jets can cause such a major upset and take game 1. With Perry, Kesler and Getzlaf on the roster, the Ducks are our pick to win Thursday’s game.
