Top Five NBA Odds for Rookie of the Year

The 2014-15 class of NBA rookies is considered to be a deep pool of talented players, expected to contribute for their respective teams immediately. The problem is picking which of the young hoopsters will break through and win Rookie of the Year. Let's take a look at the top five prospects that will have the greatest impact while at the same time turn out a profit on the NBA lines to win the ROY award.

1. Jabari Parker Odds: +275

Parker was taken No. 2 overall in the NBA draft for a reason. He was the most "NBA ready" player. In Milwaukee he has the opportunity to put up big scoring and rebound numbers playing at the 3. Although he averaged 15.6 points and 8.2 rebounds in summer league play, he will faced with a more physical challenge against other small forwards in the league. His high percentage shots that fell for him at Duke won't come as easy but he is still a strong option even though as the favorite to win the ROY his NBA odds are not as rewarding as the other candidates.

2. Andrew Wiggins Odds: +350

One second Wiggins was on a championship contending team in Cleveland and the next he is playing for a rebuilding Timberwolves team. Having to do things on his own with establishing an identity could be a blessing in the long run. The expectations are high in Minnesota for him to shine and be a team leader. This will help the 19 year old grow up quick. He will have plenty of minutes to end up as the highest scoring rookie.

3. Julius Randle Odds: +1000

For those that have been paying attention to Randal over the summer, you need to take take a look at how far he has come in his physical conditioning since leaving Kentucky. The guy already had the size for the NBA but he has slimmed down and added muscle. The power forward has the potential to be an immediate boost to a rebuilding Lakers team but there is one thing to consider when predicting a ROY winner on the NBA lines. With Carlos Boozer, Ed Davis, Jordan Hill and Ryan Kelly in the mix at power forward, Randle will be fighting for minutes.

4. Marcus Smart Odds:+1200

With Rajon Rondo out for six to eight weeks after suffering a broken hand, the door is open for Smart. The powerful point guard may get a chance to start in Rondo's absence and show the Celtics organization what they got with the No. 6 overall pick. His size and physical intensity make him one of the best rookie guards. It will be his defense that will keep earn him more minutes and therefore help boost his statistics. He is capable of averaging 15 points, five assists to go along with a couple steals a game. If Rondo is shipped out Marcus is the 'Smart' choice as the Celtics' combo guard of the future.

5. Donte Exum Odds:+2000

The 'Wonder from Down Under' is a long shot worth considering to win the ROY honors. Point guards have a great recent history, winning the award seven out of the last 10 years. We know that Exum is super quick but can he consistently hit his jump shot? The athletic playmaker will have to play less of a distributor's role because Trey Burke is the primary point man. So if Exum answers the question at hand and can make his shots, he is a nice dark horse that can payout handsomely.
