Bantamweight, Featherweight Belts on the Line at Legacy FC 61

Posted by David King on 10/9/2016 7:50:17 AM

Get ready MMA betting enthusiasts, next Friday, Legacy FC heads to Dallas, Texas, for a championship doubleheader on AXS TV Fights.

The main event sees local fighter Damon Jackson battle newly-crowned Legacy featherweight titlist Kevin Aguilar.

Jackson, 28, returns to Legacy with something to prove. He entered the octagon 9-0, with three impressive submission wins under the LFC banner marking him a top prospect.

A tough loss to Yancy Medeiros and draw with the rugged Levan Makashvili saw him cut from the UFC. He's hungry to take the featherweight division by storm, again, to prove he deserves another chance.

Aguilar, 28, is a good counterpuncher whose composure and stamina led him to a five-round unanimous decision win over Tony Kelley to win the featherweight belt.

He will have the advantage with the bout on its feet. It will be interesting to see if he can take down Jackson, but, most important will be his ability to control positions and handle submission attempts.

We know Aguilar will last the distance and should have the skill to win rounds. Jackson can be competitive but I can't help but think he's meeting a better boxer with booming confidence. Aguilar's the pick by decision. Many MMA betting fans will likely see value in him.

Steven Peterson became Legacy bantamweight champion in June, scoring takedowns and applying pressure until the guillotine choke came to him in the fourth round against the favored Manny Vasquez.

Peterson is a powerful grappler who battles for the finish. With strong takedowns and early pressing, he proved himself to be a roadblock for a rising star in Vasquez. Can he do the same in his first title defense against Mark De La Rosa?

De La Rosa is a touted prospect, who, at 7-0, makes his Legacy fighting debut.

He has a background in boxing and a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, fighting since a young age and transitioning well to MMA. Peterson's style should pose a challenge. He is a pain, but if De La Rosa is truly special he has a chance. I think Peterson breaks him down eventually and defends with a submission in the second or third round.
