Toledo halted a two-game losing streak by beating Akron 35-23 to move to 7-2 SU over its L/9 games. The Rockets are just 1-3 ATS over their L/4 games and average 32.9 points per game while allowing 27.3 per contest defensively. Toledo (9-3) is making a return to the postseason after missing out last year. The Rockets did beat Air Force in the 2011 Military Bowl.
Utah State has won eight of its L/9 games and will come into this college football Famous Idaho Potato Bowl 2012 riding an impressive six-game SU winning streak. The Aggies are 7-1 ATS in their L/8 games and average a stellar 34.4 points per game while giving up just 15.4 per contest defensively. Utah State is making its second straight appearance in this bowl game after losing a thriller against Ohio last year. This is the fourth appearance for Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl, the most for any team and
school-record sixth consecutive bowl season for the Falcons.
Rice finished off their regular season by winning four straight games and five of their L/6 games overall. The Owls compiled an impressive 5-1 ATS mark over their last half-dozen games and averaged 31.8 points per game while allowing a nearly identical 31.3 points per contest defensively. Rice will play in its third bowl game since a lengthy 45-year postseason drought that lasted from 1961 to 2006.
The game will be played in the completely redone stadium on the TCU campus. For its 10th anniversary contest, the college football Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl 2012 will be back in its original location after two years at SMU.
