Villanova Might Repeat
Despite being a high seed in last year's NCAA Tournament, nobody expected Villanova to go all the way and deliver Jay Wright his first national title in charge of the Wildcats. This year, with plenty of talent having departed after last season, the odds were once again not in their favor heading into the year. Once again, though, Villanova may end up cutting down the nets at the end of the season.
Villanova Running Wild
So far, Villanova's defense has carried it to another successful season. The Wildcats are allowing under 63 points per game on the year, good for a top-20 spot in all of college basketball on that side of the court. And unlike a team like Virginia, who also boasts an elite defense, Villanova has the offensive firepower to help them win most of their games, including a home win earlier this season against Virginia itself.
Villanova has two losses so far this season, both of which came on the road against conference rivals Marquette and Butler. These are by no means bad losses, especially when you remember that the NCAA Tournament is contested on neutral courts, where Villanova has yet to lose this season. If the Wildcats can continue winning in non-road games through the Big East Tournament, there is no reason to believe they can't win it all again this season.
Villanova College Basketball Futures Betting
Unsurprisingly, Villanova is one of the biggest favorites to win this year's NCAA Tournament, as they are currently at +800 to win the 2017 NCAA Tournament. This puts them right behind the undefeated Gonzaga and fellow 2016 finalist North Carolina among the favorites. Villanova has an advantage over those two teams, though, with that being that they have recent experience when it comes to winning on the biggest stage in the sport.
A couple of tests remain for Villanova in the regular season, with key showdowns against Creighton and Butler, who defeated the Wildcats earlier this season. Both of these games will be telling for a Villanova team who needs to keep winning to solidify themselves as a number one seed in the upcoming tournament.
